Transport Britain Magazine Issue 8

ISSUE 8 of Transport Britain coincides with the start of the most significant investment period ever seen on the railways of Britain – Control Period 6 (CP6).

Network Rail and the Office of Rail and Road (ORR) have worked studiously to agree on plans to improve the rail network, with £35 billion allocated for Britain’s railways in the five years from April, making them more reliable.

Charles Robarts, Network Rail’s Director of Planning and Regulation discusses how the business plan has been put together and what it will achieve.

At the ORR, Carl Hetherington, Deputy Director for Economic Regulation and Regulatory Finance, talks about how the plans were agreed, and what lessons have been learnt from previous funding periods.

Elsewhere in this issue, the International Association of Public Transport (UITP) discuss the challenges facing public transport in urban areas; and one of the UK’s largest trade associations, the Freight Transport Association (FTA) has written about how government investment can unlock the true potential of the transport network.
